The Kitchen Garden at Bemersyde
Behind high Victorian walls lies a garden that has supplied the estate for generations. Today, it remains a highlight of life at Bemersyde — a place where heritage, sustainability, and taste come together.
Sheltered by the brick walls built in 1870, the garden grows an array of seasonal produce: tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, lettuces, peas, apples, pears, broccoli, and corn — all cultivated without chemicals. In the wooden-framed greenhouse, vines hang heavy with grapes in late summer.
The housekeeper continues a time-honoured tradition of preservation, transforming the harvest into jams, chutneys, pestos, soups, and sauces. These handmade jars are not just food, but an extension of the estate’s ethos: thoughtful, seasonal, and crafted with care.
For Our Guests
Guests may purchase fresh produce or preserves during their stay — a basket of pears, a jar of chutney, or a bottle of tomato passata capturing the very flavour of the estate. To cook with ingredients from the garden is to experience Bemersyde in its most authentic form.
